The Arillo Winery at Terrabianca

The Arillo Winery at Terrabianca aims to fully express and share the art of winemaking. From the vineyard to production, visitors will have the opportunity to see firsthand the vines and every step involved in production and bottling, culminating in a wine tasting paired with Michelin-starred dishes. Arillo at Terrabianca offers an immersive experience, engaging all the senses of the participant.

The garden of the villa serves as a retreat from the daily hustle and bustle of city life. It can be a place to relax and enjoy solitude or a space for socializing with family and friends. The design’s goal is to create a versatile space that is both pleasant and functional, meeting the daily needs of its users. With its visually appealing layout, the garden will contribute to a diverse and enriching experience, showcasing various types of garden environments.

Winery Terrabianca

For the winery, specific external interventions have been designed to enhance the visitor experience, extending beyond the building and restaurant. First, the entrance square (piazza) was cleared of employee vehicles, creating new “hidden” parking spaces behind the winery. To interrupt the view of the vehicles, the parking area is screened with strategically placed plants. The greenery serves to block sightlines, ensuring the parking area remains discreet and integrated within the landscape, maintaining the aesthetic of the property. Rearranging the space in front of the winery has made room for a large lawn, ideal for various events. As an accent to the lawn, a small grove has been created with smaller trees and evergreen shrubbery underneath, centered around a sculpture. The area is furnished with armchairs and tables, offering visitors a place to relax while admiring the architectural work of the renowned architect Mario Botta. At the back of the winery, next to the theater, an aromatic garden with grasses and a vegetable garden (orto) has been established. The produce from the “orto” will be used in dishes preparedm by the Michelin-starred restaurant’s chef. A water feature will serve both aesthetic purposes and the practical function of cleaning the ingredients to be tasted by guests on-site.

Villa Terrabianca

The villa retains its historic entrance, framed by cypress trees along the road. In front of the villa, a courtyard has been designed for vehicle drop-offs. Private parking for villa guests is located behind the villa, on the northwest side of the property, with a heliport situated nearby. Key viewpoints have been identified throughout the property and will be emphasized through the design of bespoke garden spaces. The landscape design aims to create environments that seamlessly blend with the surrounding agricultural landscape at the edges of the garden. A transitional space has also been designed between the villa and the tennis area, facilitating a smooth connection between the villa’s garden and the adjacent forest. The overarching design seeks to harmonize the agricultural landscape with the artistry of gardens and architecture.

The villa garden has been designed in harmony with the minimal style of the interiors defined by the architectural project. The garden is organized into distinct “garden rooms,” each with its own character, created through lush planting and art placed strategically throughout the space to guide visitors from one area to another. Simple shapes and layers of greenery define the outdoor spaces, using clean lines that respect tradition with a contemporary twist. Private gardens are “framed” by rosemary hedges and flowering perennials, while the plant palette for the entrance driveway and courtyard is chosen for its suitability to the shadier positions. The central courtyard also features a water feature with a statue.

The swimming pool area will be surrounded by multi-stem olive trees, positioned strategically to create a natural barrier between the buildings, providing an intimate, private space while enhancing the view of the vineyards. At the back of the villa, the Camellia garden is designed to embrace the nearby forest with shaded plants, leading to the tennis court, which offers a privileged vantage point from which to observe the game.
